It is a rare moment in which I don’t see Pat Buchanan speaking and think one of the following three things (and if I’m not thinking one of these three things it’s probably because I’m doing something more important like feeding my dogs or watching paint dry):

1) Why does MSNBC love Pat Buchanan and let him on every single one of their shows? (I mean his sister is an adviser on the Clinton campaign, isn’t that a conflict of interest when you’re trying to run a news bureau?)

2) Why does anyone listen to this guy?

3) Pat Buchanan is an ass hat

Now, I’ve been making a conscious effort to try and not use expletives on this blog (mostly because I don’t want any potential employers who stumble upon this site to disqualify me for employment because of my excessive use of “ass” or “shit,” etc. If they don’t hire me because of my political views then I don’t want the job anyway, especially since I know not to mix politics/religion with co-workers/bosses), but when it comes to Pat Buchanan I can’t think of a single synonym that doesn’t involve some sort of swear word.

In his latest crime against the intelligent, PJB has written “A Brief for Whitey,” posted to his website, buchanan.org. This is Buchanan’s response to Barack Obama’s amazing (my word, not PJB’s) speech on race. Where do I even begin…? Perhaps with some quoted portions of the blog entry:

First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

Yes, I’m sure every African-American would like to thank whitey for shipping their ancestors over in boats and forcing them into slave labor. “I mean, they got welfare and methadone maintenance and forced Christianity and eventually the right to consider themselves fully human! Where is the gratitude, black people?

Now, I’m a white kid who grew up in a middle class environment that didn’t need to teach me to look beyond a person’s skin because it wasn’t necessary. My best friend growing up was Asian, and that’s the most qualification I can give you since I didn’t even notice that her skin color wasn’t the same as mine and didn’t have the wherewithal to ask her if she was Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc. I didn’t even think about race until I arrived in Erie, PA and was surrounded by confederate flags and the “n” word being used liberally.

Don’t get me wrong, I am in NO WAY endorsing or justifying the words of Rev. Wright, and yes, there have been times in my life that I have been resentful for the looks I’ve received from minorities who assume that because I’m white my ancestors were automatically slave owners, of their ancestors. And don’t even get me started on immigration and the entitlement that certain minorities seem to have. I’m just saying, maybe we shouldn’t throw a party for ourselves for being the liberators of the black people. In any event, I encourage everyone to read the entire PJB article (linked earlier in this entry) and to watch Barack Obama’s speech on race which you can find here. Whether you want Obama to be the next President or not, this is an important and historic speech of the state of race relations in our country.
